harmful is a German noise rock band from Frankfurt am Main, formed in 1992, quickly becoming a defining force within the hard alternative music scene.
The band is known for powerful alternative and noise rock, driven by intense riffs and a high-energy live performance.
Their debut album was released in 1995 on independent label BluNoise Records, followed by further releases on labels such as BMG and Nois-o-Lution.
With a total of eight studio albums, harmful created a diverse and influential body of work, ranging from raw intensity to more nuanced sonic landscapes.
A major highlight is the 2007 album 7, produced by Billy Gould, bassist of Faith No More, who also briefly joined the band as a member.
Further milestones include extensive tours as a support act for bands such as Slayer, Machine Head, and Helmet, cementing harmful’s reputation as a formidable live band.
After more than two decades, harmful disbanded in 2014, following the release of Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tiredin 2013.
In 2025, harmful returned to the stage for anniversary shows and special editions of their 1995 debut album – clear proof of their lasting relevance.
