Tom Liwa & Flowerpornoes (DE)

Territories: Europe

Tom Liwa (*1961) is regarded as one of the most influential German songwriters of the past four decades. Since the mid-1980s, he has developed a distinctive form of German-language pop music that combines literary depth, emotional intensity, and strong melodic sensibility—independent of short-lived trends or scenes.

In 1985, Liwa founded the band Flowerpornoes in Duisburg, which remains the core of his musical work to this day. Alongside this, he has been active in numerous projects and band constellations, including Sundown, Mikrosaivo, and the Leuchtturmband, as well as in orchestral and interdisciplinary contexts. Over the course of his career, Tom Liwa has released more than 30 albums and published several books.

Since the 1990s, Tom Liwa has been considered a key reference point for intelligent, artistically ambitious German pop music. His work extends far beyond the conventional pop framework, encompassing theatre productions, film projects, and collaborations with musicians from jazz and contemporary music. In 2022, his album “Eine andere Zeit” was named Album of the Year by Rolling Stone Germany; its successor, “Primzahlen aus dem Bardo” (2024), also received top rankings in year-end lists.

The Flowerpornoes represent an open and evolving musical space within Liwa’s oeuvre. In changing line-ups, many of his most well-known and enduring live songs were created. To this day, the band remains a central element of his releases and performances.

Live, Tom Liwa performs both solo and with the Flowerpornoes, presenting songs from all phases of his career. His current concerts are connected to the retrospective release “20 Power Hits”—not as a nostalgic look back, but as a statement of an ongoing, highly relevant body of work.
